Health Marketplaces – A Look in the Rear View Mirror

Rear-view Mirror In A CarA new study was released on March 5 that reveals a healthy amount of ignorance by nearly a quarter (23 percent) of uninsured individuals regarding their knowledge of state and federal health marketplaces. In addition, 27 percent of adults in low-income families also show lack of knowledge regarding these exchanges.

Conducted in December 2013, the study, ‘Who Has Been Looking for Information in the ACA Marketplaces? Why? And How?‘ was authored by the Urban Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, two highly-credible research organizations. In fact, about two years ago, I had the good fortune of coordinating a project with one of the authors of this particular report, Frederic Blavin, who is a senior research associate at the Urban Institute’s Health Policy Center.

This report provides a rear view mirror look at the enrollment efforts in state and federal marketplaces since the rollout began last October. It is helpful to have a clear view of what has happened thus far without having to sieve through partisan viewpoints. A nice and welcomed change!
